Same author, different title & blog

I lived in New Mexico for three years and recently moved to Ohio. It's time to change the title of my blog from "Angie in the Southwest"to "Getting to Know Ohio." I love exploring different restaurants and cool places wherever I go. Depending on the type of places I go to, sometimes I may write about them on my Asian blog. Anyway, if you want to find out more about Ohio, then you've come to the right blog!

Found this video that was taken more than 10 years ago! I couldn't believe how much I changed!!! This video was taken at the Temasek Polytechnic graduation ceremony in Singapore, where I received the top award for the School of Business. I was the DBS Gold Medal Recipient that year.

Video

This video was filmed and made for our dog, Skye who has gone through tremendous hardship when she was little. She made it through and is now incredibly intelligent in understanding commands and human words.

Some information about the film...

"A Delicate Balance" is nominated for the Best Unreleased Documentary by the Australian Film Critics Association. It is also selected for screening at many film festivals worldwide including the International Film Festival Thailand-Phuket 2009, Green Lifestyle Film Festival 2009 and International Film Festival England 2008.

Three years in the making, "A Delicate Balance" is a succinct production featuring candid, heartfelt interviews with some of the world's leading experts. It gives you answers to the questions you never thought to ask, and sets you on the path to asking the questions the animal products corporations hoped you never would... Most importantly, it proves that life is a delicate balance - and we can all tip the scales.

"I decided to create a film that clearly illustrates how diet and non violence are critical to the health and well-being of all Life on earth, and that it's possible to live a life that's conducive to peace, love and prosperity." - Aaron Scheibner, Director & Producer of "A Delicate Balance."

New Internet Radio Show - Discovering Ohio

After much consideration, I have finally decided to start an internet radio show called "Discovering Ohio."  I used to go around town and film different events when I was in Alamogordo, NM.  After coming to Ohio, I did not get an avenue to actively film and produce videos, but I thought having an internet radio show would continue to allow me help the community promote their events.

Discovering Ohio is about finding all the fun and interesting events, such as seminars, fundraisers, club meetings, craft shows, parties and professional conferences in Ohio right in my radio shows. I'm going to look for good events in Newark, Heath, Hebron, Granville, Buckeye Lake, Zanesville, Reynoldsberg, Pickerington, Pataskala, Columbus, New Albany, Dublin, Gahanna, Dayton, Cincinnati and surrounding areas! Being an individual who is adamant about green living, I will focus more on individuals, businesses and non-profit organizations that provide green products and services or have a special green message to share.

This show is about interviewing people and organizations that make a difference.

Our first show is with John Stewart, the national organizer of "Think Outside the Bottle" Campaign.  Tune in at 1:00pm Eastern Time on March 31, 2009.  See you there!

A little more greens in Newark...

I recently started a brand new green group called "Ohio Green Specialists" on meetup.com, a website service that helps like-minded people meet and organize events together.  Initially, I was searching for local groups to join and I realized that there's nothing much out here.  All the groups are in the Columbus area. However, I have talked to many people who want to know more about green living and how reducing, reusing and recycling can help their lives and the environment.  So here I am with my new group "Ohio Green Specialists."

blog post photo

While I am not a green specialist by any definition, my goal is for every member, including myself, to learn enough from various guest speakers, read research and share ideas with like-minded people to be called one in the future.  This group was set up last Friday and within only a few days, I have got a dozen of people who are passionate about green living joined the group.  I am really looking forward to meeting anyone who is interested in making their homes, home offices, businesses or non-profit organizations environmentally friendly.  On that note, our group is looking for sponsors who can provide a meeting venue (it can be a meeting room, a private room in a bar/restaurant etc.), supply green products for members to try, offer discounts on products/services etc.  We are also looking for speakers who can share some green tips and information with the group.

It is free to sign up an account on meetup.com and be a member of Ohio Green Specialists.  I hope to see you join the group and also join our first event on April 5 (Sunday).  We are going to have breakfast at 8:30am and then we will do a 8-mile hike at the beautiful Dawes Arboretum with a big group of people from different parts of Ohio including Dublin, Columbus, Newark and Zanesville.  Don't miss out this opportunity to make some new friends as well as enjoying a healthy hike!

For more information, please visit the event on the Ohio Green Specialists page.  You can rsvp directly there if you have a meetup account.  Once you join the group (which is free), then you will be able to put in your rsvp.  If you are on Facebook, join my Facebook page to rsvp to the event.

I look forward to seeing you on April 5!

World Water Day Film Screening in Columbus

To take local action for World Water Day, a UN-sanctioned day celebrating the human right to water, Think Outside the Bottle will be screening the documentary “Thirst: Fighting the Corporate Theft of Our Water.”

Right now, 1 in 6 people worldwide do not have enough access to clean, safe drinking water. By 2025, 2 out of every 3 people will not have enough.

The documentary makes people think whether water should be a human right for all people or a commodity to be bought, sold and traded in the global marketplace.  The story is about the communities in Bolivia, India and the United States that wonder about this fundamental question.

When: World Water Day: Sunday, March 22, 2009, at 5:30pm
Where: Progress Ohio - 251 S. 3rd Street Columbus, OH 43215, (Call 614-441-9145 for questions about location)
Why: Because water is a human right and a public good, and when it’s treated as a commodity, our health, democracy, and environment suffers. Find out more, and find out how to take action!
